Turkey Reopens Aleppo Consulate After 12 Years; Raises Flag in Ceremony with Syrian Officials
Jan 20, 2025, 09:15 AM
Turkey has reopened its consulate general in Aleppo, Syria, after being closed for 12 years due to the Syrian civil war. The Turkish flag was raised at the consulate during a ceremony attended by acting Turkish Ambassador Burhan Koroglu and Syrian political affairs official Saad Nasan, marking the resumption of diplomatic operations in the city. This reopening follows the resumption of Turkey's embassy in Damascus on December 14, 2024, and signifies a normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria. The consulate had ceased operations in July 2012 amid escalating conflict in Syria.
