Trump Asks Supreme Court to Delay January 19 TikTok Ban to Negotiate Resolution After Taking Office
Dec 28, 2024, 05:30 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has urged the US Supreme Court to pause the implementation of a federal law that would ban the popular social media app TikTok or force its sale by January 19, the day before his inauguration. In a filing, Trump's legal team argued that he should be given time after taking office to pursue a 'political resolution' to the issue. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on January 10 regarding the ban. Trump, who has more than 14 million followers on TikTok and credits the platform with helping him win support among young voters, has reversed his previous stance on the app, having initially recognized it as a national security threat. He now seeks to negotiate a solution that addresses security concerns while allowing TikTok to continue operating in the United States.
