Iran Activates Advanced Centrifuges in Response to U.S.- and Europe-backed IAEA Board of Governors Resolution
Nov 21, 2024, 09:12 PM
Iran's government has issued a strong response to a recent resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, which it characterized as politically motivated. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated that the country would respond proportionately if the IAEA took action against it. In a further escalation, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Gharibabadi, announced that the nation would respond decisively and immediately to any resolutions adopted by the IAEA. Following this, Iran's Atomic Energy Organization confirmed the activation of advanced centrifuges as a direct response to the IAEA resolution. The Iranian foreign ministry, along with the Atomic Energy Organization, condemned the resolution as “political and destructive,” emphasizing that the activation of new and advanced centrifuges was a necessary step in retaliation. This decision comes amid tensions with Western nations, particularly the U.S. and European countries, which supported the IAEA's stance.
