Israel Hits Hezbollah Ammunition Depots in Lebanon, Killing Five Amid Ceasefire
Jan 12, 2025, 08:56 PM
Israel conducted multiple airstrikes in southern Lebanon over the past three days, targeting Hezbollah positions and resulting in several casualties. On January 10, an Israeli drone strike on the town of Tyre Debba killed five people and injured four others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. Among the deceased were members of Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, including Hassan Ghassan Hijazi and Suleiman Ghassan Daher. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that on January 11, they conducted a drone strike after identifying several Hezbollah operatives leaving a military facility in southern Lebanon. Later that day, another drone strike targeted three suspects near Mount Dov, also known as Shebaa Farms, close to the Israeli border. On January 12, Israeli warplanes carried out extensive airstrikes on Hezbollah ammunition depots and military sites in the Nabatieh District, including the areas of Houmine al-Faouqa, Deir al-Zahrani, and Rumin. Additional strikes were reported near Janta in the Bekaa Valley, close to the Syrian border. The strikes occurred north of the Litani River and were among the heaviest since the ceasefire agreement took effect on November 27. Israeli sources indicated that the operations were initiated after the Lebanese army failed to act against Hezbollah positions, despite requests. Israeli aircraft were also reported flying over Beirut. The IDF stated it remains committed to the ceasefire understandings but will act to neutralize threats.
