Dec 13, 2024, 07:15 PM
Turkey will reopen its embassy in Damascus on Saturday, December 14, restoring diplomatic relations with Syria after a 12-year hiatus, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced. Fidan stated that Turkey has been engaged in negotiations with Russia and Iran to ensure a peaceful resolution in Syria and minimize loss of life. He noted that Turkey had seen the risks but the Syrian regime turned its back on the processes Ankara wanted to initiate. Diplomatic staff are heading to Syria and will begin work immediately upon arrival.
