ICC Prosecutor Seeks Arrest Warrant for Myanmar's Min Aung Hlaing Over Rohingya Crimes Against Humanity
Nov 27, 2024, 02:15 PM
International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan has announced an application for an arrest warrant for Myanmar's Acting President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, Min Aung Hlaing. The charges allege his responsibility for the crimes against humanity of deportation and persecution committed against the Rohingya, a mainly Muslim minority, during 2017 military operations. The crimes were committed in Myanmar and partly in Bangladesh, leading to the mass displacement of the Rohingya population. Khan made the announcement after visiting Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.
