Shell and Chevron Begin Redeploying Personnel to Gulf of Mexico Platforms as Oil and Gas Output Resumes Post-Hurricane Rafael
Nov 10, 2024, 08:35 PM
Shell and Chevron have begun redeploying personnel to their Gulf of Mexico platforms following Hurricane Rafael. The storm had previously led to the evacuation of personnel from 41 production platforms, representing 11.05% of the 371 manned platforms in the region. Approximately 28.01% of oil production and nearly 17% of natural gas output were shut in as a result of the hurricane. Shell had shut in its Salsa asset and moved non-essential personnel from several other platforms, including Appomattox, Vito, Ursa, Mars, and Auger, while Chevron also shut in production at its facilities and transported all associated personnel to shore. The U.S. offshore energy regulator reported that more than a quarter of the Gulf's oil output and 16% of its natural gas production were offline in the aftermath of the storm.
