Trump to Launch Mass Deportation Raids in Chicago Day After Inauguration; Mayor Vows Opposition
Jan 18, 2025, 01:51 AM
Following President-Elect Donald Trump's inauguration, the incoming administration is planning a large-scale immigration raid in Chicago next week, marking the first move in his promised mass deportation campaign. According to four people familiar with the planning, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will deploy between 100 and 200 officers to carry out the operation, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday morning, the day after the inauguration, and may last all week. Mayor Brandon Johnson is reportedly promising to stand in the way of the operation. Chicago is expected to be the first city targeted, with other sanctuary cities potentially following. Sources have described the planned raid as a "big f–king operation."
