Israeli Airstrikes Kill Senior Hezbollah Commander Ibrahim Aqil, 10 Others in Beirut's Southern Suburbs
Sep 20, 2024, 02:25 PM
Israeli airstrikes in Beirut's southern suburbs have killed Ibrahim Aqil, a senior Hezbollah commander. Aqil was the head of Hezbollah's Operations Unit and the commander of the elite Radwan Force. He was also wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombings of the U.S. Embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut. The strike, confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), targeted Aqil and other senior Hezbollah members as they were holding a meeting. Aqil was a prominent figure in Hezbollah's military hierarchy, serving as the second-in-command of Hezbollah's armed forces. The operation aimed to disrupt Hezbollah's "Conquer the Galilee" attack plan and resulted in the elimination of 10 other commanders.
