On December 14, 2024, President Donald Trump announced that Richard Allen Grenell will serve as the Presidential Envoy for Special Missions. Grenell, who previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany and acting Director of National Intelligence, will handle some of the world's most dangerous places, including Venezuela and North Korea. "Ric will serve in the hottest spots around the world, including Venezuela and North Korea," Trump said.
