Luigi Mangione Indicted on Terrorism Charges for Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson
Dec 17, 2024, 09:09 PM
Luigi Mangione, 26, has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on charges including first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism and second-degree murder as an act of terrorism for the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4. Mangione allegedly shot Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk outside a Midtown hotel in a well-planned attack. He was arrested on December 9 in Pennsylvania, and authorities are working to bring him to New York for trial. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the 11-count indictment on Tuesday, which includes multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Mangione faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if convicted. Under New York law, the terrorism charge can be brought when an alleged crime is intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population.
