Former CIA Analyst Pleads Guilty to Leaking Classified Israel Strike Plans on Iran
Jan 17, 2025, 08:55 PM
Asif William Rahman, a 34-year-old former CIA analyst who worked at the agency since 2016, pleaded guilty to leaking classified documents detailing Israel's military preparations for a retaliatory strike on Iran. Rahman, who held a top-secret security clearance, accessed and printed two top-secret documents on October 17, 2024, which he then shared with individuals not authorized to receive them. The leaked information surfaced on social media, leading to a delay in Israel's planned attack on Iran. Rahman's actions were motivated by ideological reasons, and he took steps to conceal his involvement by deleting and editing journal entries and destroying electronic devices. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each of the two counts of willful retention and transmission of classified information, with sentencing scheduled for May 15, 2025.
