President Donald Trump has signed an executive order withdrawing the United States from the World Health Organization, citing the agency's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and other international health crises. Trump criticized the WHO for being influenced by China and noted that while the U.S. contributes $500 million annually, China contributes only $39 million. He accused the organization of having 'ripped us off'. The decision, made on his first full day in office, will cut off one of the WHO's largest funding sources and initiates a 12-month withdrawal process. Public health experts warn that the move could weaken global efforts to combat health threats and undermine the United States' role as a global health leader.
