UK Regulator Finds Google Abused Dominant Position in Ad Tech Since 2015
Sep 6, 2024, 10:42 AM
The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally found that Google has abused its dominant position in the digital advertising market since at least 2015. The CMA alleges that Google has used its publisher ad server and buying tools to restrict competition by favoring its own ad tech services. This behavior, according to the CMA, harms thousands of British publishers and advertisers. The regulator's findings come ahead of a significant antitrust trial involving Google in the United States, which is set to begin next week. The CMA's provisional findings add to the growing scrutiny of Google's practices in both Europe and the US.
