A group of 21 states and more than 50 US lawmakers have backed the Justice Department on Friday in its defense of a law requiring China-based ByteDance to sell TikTok's US assets by January 19 or face a ban. The bipartisan support was demonstrated through an amicus brief filed in defense of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act in the case TikTok v. Garland. The brief argues that TikTok's challenge to the Divestiture Act is meritless and addresses the threat posed by Chinese ownership of the app.
