Dike Breach in Xiangtan, Hunan Forces Evacuation of Thousands

A dike breach occurred in the Juanshui River in central China's Hunan Province on Sunday, leading to the evacuation of over 3,800 residents. The breach, which was reported around 8 p.m., caused significant concern, but no casualties have been reported. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with 200 professionals and 110 pieces of equipment on-site. By early Monday morning, the breach had widened to 77 meters in Xintang Village. Local authorities confirmed that another breach occurred on Monday at 1:40 p.m., which was successfully sealed by 3 p.m. in Huashi Township. The affected area includes Xiangtan County, where at least two breaches have appeared in the embankment of the tributary of the Xiangjiang River, resulting in the relocation of around 4,600 residents.
