Jul 20, 2024, 10:15 PM
Heavy rains have triggered flash floods in northern and southwestern China, resulting in at least 20 deaths and leaving dozens missing. In Sichuan Province, more than 30 people are missing, and over 40 houses have been damaged in Xinhua village of Hanyuan county. Communication, roads, and bridges have been interrupted. In Shaanxi and Henan provinces, rescuers were sent to save trapped residents. The death toll has risen to 12 in some areas. In response, the China National Comprehensive Fire and Rescue Team has deployed 736 personnel, 76 vehicles, 18 boats, and 32 drones for rescue operations. Additionally, Chinese ministries of finance and emergency management have allocated 260 million yuan ($36.62 million) to support local governments in disaster relief efforts. Rescuers have retrieved eight bodies and found four people alive as of Saturday evening. The disaster has also led to massive evacuations, with over 20,000 people being relocated in northern China.
