Armenia Thwarts Russia-Backed Coup Attempt Against Pashinyan Government
Sep 18, 2024, 06:23 PM
Armenian authorities have thwarted an attempted coup allegedly backed by Russia against the Pashinyan government. The National Security Service of Armenia reported that the plot involved seven individuals, including five Armenian citizens and two former residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, who underwent military training in Russia. The Investigative Committee of Armenia stated that the conspirators aimed to usurp power through violent means. Three suspects have been arrested, while four others remain wanted. The group was reportedly well-funded, receiving 220,000 RUB per month each. Armenian officials have emphasized the seriousness of the threat, noting the detailed planning and execution of the plot by pro-Russian forces.
