Jul 7, 2024, 10:37 AM
Investigations reported by Israeli newspaper Haaretz have revealed that the Israeli army issued orders to activate the Hannibal Directive on October 7th. This directive, which involves killing both the captor and the captive to prevent soldiers from being taken prisoner, was implemented at three army facilities. The use of the directive resulted in the endangerment and death of dozens of Israeli civilians. Orders included attacking any vehicle driving towards Gaza, indiscriminately bombing the area with mortar shells and artillery, and dispatching drones to attack the Re’im outpost close to the Nova festival. The Israeli army also used Apache Helicopters and Tanks during the operation, according to MiddleEastEye.
