E. coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder Kills One, Sickens 75 in 13 States
Oct 25, 2024, 02:01 AM
McDonald's Corp. has pulled its Quarter Pounder hamburger from about 20% of its U.S. restaurants following an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 75 people across 13 states, including 22 hospitalizations and one death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that the outbreak is linked to raw slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounder. The most affected states include Colorado and Nebraska. McDonald's USA President Joe Erlinger vowed to restore public trust as the company works to contain the damage. The E. coli strain involved is one of the leading causes of foodborne illness in the U.S. McDonald's is cooperating with federal health officials and has removed the sandwich from menus in affected regions as a precautionary measure.
