Syria's Ahmed al-Sharaa to Announce Military Restructuring Within Days, No Weapons Outside State Control
Dec 22, 2024, 03:37 PM
Ahmed al-Sharaa, the leader of Syria's new administration, has announced plans to restructure the Syrian military and defense ministry. He stated that within days, the new structure of the defense ministry and the Syrian army will be announced. Al-Sharaa also emphasized that no weapons will be allowed outside state control, including in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He met with military factions in Damascus to discuss the future structure of the Syrian armed forces, which will be united into one institution under the Ministry of Defense's control. Al-Sharaa's administration aims to consolidate military groups and establish a new framework for the Syrian army, ensuring all arms are under state authority.
