John Avlon has won the Democratic primary for the U.S. House seat in New York's 1st Congressional District, defeating Nancy Goroff. Avlon secured 70.5% of the votes, totaling 15,447, while Goroff received 29.5%, amounting to 6,477 votes. With 78% of the votes reported, Avlon led by 41%, or 8,970 votes. The primary took place in a district spanning most of Suffolk County to the Hamptons. Avlon, a former CNN personality, will now challenge Republican incumbent Nick LaLota in the upcoming general election. This district is considered one of New York's battleground areas. The decision was made at 9:47pm ET.
