Los Angeles County Reports Three Unprecedented Dengue Cases in Baldwin Park
Sep 18, 2024, 09:02 PM
Los Angeles County has reported an unprecedented cluster of locally acquired dengue cases, with two new cases identified in Baldwin Park residents this week. This brings the total number of locally acquired cases in LA County in 2024 to three. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) initially confirmed the first case on September 9, 2024. Health officials have noted that the new cases have no history of domestic or international travel, indicating local mosquito transmission. Vector control officials are intensifying mosquito treatments in the Baldwin Park area to prevent further spread of the disease. Most patients infected with dengue do not exhibit symptoms, but one in four will develop signs of the illness.
