CDC Issues Health Alert on Rising Dengue Cases in the U.S. for 2024, Including Florida
Jun 25, 2024, 08:24 PM
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Health Alert Network advisory warning healthcare providers, public health authorities, and the public about an increased risk of dengue virus infections in the United States in 2024. The advisory follows a record surge in dengue cases globally, particularly in South America, where nearly 10 million cases have been reported between January and late June 2024, doubling the total from all of 2023. The CDC has identified 745 dengue cases among U.S. travelers from January 1 to June 24, 2024. Health officials are urging doctors to be vigilant as the virus, which has no specific treatment, continues to spread. The surge in cases is attributed to factors including climate change. The CDC also noted sporadic local cases reported from Florida and cautioned against false posts circulating online.
