China Launches Largest Photovoltaic Project in Xinjiang with 1 GW Capacity, 1.86 TWh Electricity/Year
Dec 22, 2024, 11:57 AM
China has launched its largest photovoltaic project in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which includes an integrated solar-thermal and photovoltaic energy demonstration project. This project, developed by the Three Gorges Group, features a 1 GW capacity and incorporates a 100 MW Linear Fresnel solar thermal energy storage system alongside 90 MW of solar panels. It is designed to provide continuous power generation, with thermal energy storage enabling electricity production for eight hours during nighttime. The project is expected to generate approximately 1.86 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity annually. Additionally, the project has been officially connected to the State Grid for power generation, marking a significant advancement in China's clean energy initiatives.
