Israel Seeks 30-Day Extension for IDF Withdrawal from Southern Lebanon Amid Ceasefire Talks with U.S. and Hezbollah

Israel has requested a 30-day extension from the United States to complete the withdrawal of its military forces from southern Lebanon, as the original 60-day deadline set by a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah approaches. The agreement, signed on November 27, required the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to vacate the region by January 26. However, concerns over the slow deployment of the Lebanese Army have prompted Israel to seek additional time. Negotiations involving the U.S., France, Israel, and Lebanon are reportedly underway to discuss the feasibility of this extension. Israel's ambassador to the U.S., Michael Herzog, expressed confidence that an understanding could be reached with the Trump administration before the deadline.
