An oil refinery in Ryazan, Russia, operated by Rosneft, was engulfed in flames following a drone attack by Ukrainian forces on the night of January 23, 2025. The attack, located over 450km from Ukraine, involved at least 10 drones, with reports of up to 12 explosions heard in the area. The Ryazan Oil Refinery, identified as the third largest in Russia, is a key facility in the Russian oil industry, crucial for providing fuel to both civilian and military sectors. A massive fire broke out, with at least one fuel tank burning. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defense systems intercepted 49 drones across several regions, including Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod oblasts, and occupied Crimea. Additionally, a microelectronics plant in Bryansk was also hit during the drone strikes. The attack on the Ryazan Oil Refinery is part of Ukraine's strategy to target Russian energy infrastructure, aiming to disrupt a significant funding source for Russia's war efforts.
