Ukrainian Drones Strike Fuel Depot in Russia's Saratov Oblast, Causing Massive Fire at Engels-2 Air Base
Jan 8, 2025, 06:13 AM
Ukrainian drones conducted a strike on a fuel depot in the city of Engels, located in Russia's Saratov Oblast, over 500km from the Ukrainian border. The attack, which occurred overnight, targeted the 'Kristall' oil storage facility associated with the Engels-2 Air Base, a key hub for Russian long-range bombers, including Tu-95 bombers. The regional governor, Roman Busargin, confirmed the drone attack, noting that debris from a downed UAV caused a fire at an industrial facility. Reports indicate that the fuel depot, which supplies fuel to the Engels airbase, was hit, resulting in a massive fire. The attack involved three Ukrainian One-Way Attack UAVs (OWA-UAVs), and local reports mentioned around three dozen explosions in the vicinity.
