Hezbollah's Naim Qassem Calls Loss of Syria Supply Route 'a Detail' After Assad's Fall
Dec 14, 2024, 04:57 PM
Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem acknowledged in a televised speech on Saturday that the Lebanese armed group has lost its military supply route through Syria following the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad nearly a week ago by a sweeping rebel offensive. Qassem stated that, "Yes, Hezbollah has lost the military supply route through Syria at this stage, but this loss is a detail in the resistance's work," emphasizing that the group can find alternative routes or the new Syrian leadership might allow the route to continue. He noted that they cannot judge the new Syrian leadership until it stabilizes and takes clear positions, and affirmed that "the Syrian people have the right to choose their government, constitution, and options." He expressed hope that the new Syrian government would consider Israel an enemy and refrain from normalizing relations.
