Iran Temporarily Releases Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi for Three-Week Medical Treatment
Dec 4, 2024, 11:54 AM
On December 4, 2024, Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Iranian human rights activist imprisoned since November 2021, was temporarily released from Tehran's Evin Prison for three weeks on medical grounds. The Tehran prosecutor's office approved the suspension of her sentence following the medical examiner's recommendation due to her physical condition after undergoing tumor removal surgery and a bone graft 21 days ago. Her lawyer, Mostafa Nili, confirmed that she was released on bail of 8 billion tomans and left the prison in an ambulance. Family members have criticized the release as 'too little, too late,' expressing concerns over her health, including heart disease and inadequate post-surgical care leading to bedsores.
