Iran Releases Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi on 8 Billion Toman Bail After Tumor Surgery
Dec 4, 2024, 11:33 AM
Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who has been incarcerated since November 2021, has been temporarily released from Evin Prison for three weeks due to medical reasons. Her lawyer, Mostafa Nili, announced that the Tehran prosecutor's office suspended her sentence based on the recommendation of the medical examiner, following a surgery she underwent 21 days ago for tumor removal and bone grafting. Mohammadi, who suffers from various health issues including heart disease and bedsores after her surgery, was released on bail set at 8 billion tomans and transported by ambulance to receive medical treatment. However, her family stated that the decision is “too little, too late.”
