Mexican authorities have made the largest fentanyl seizure in the country's history, confiscating over a ton (1,000 kg) of the drug in Sinaloa, equivalent to 20 million doses valued at $394 million. The operation, led by the Mexican Navy, resulted in two arrests amid escalating violence in the cartel-dominated region, with over 50 murders reported. President Joe Biden commended President Claudia Sheinbaum for her leadership in this significant drug bust, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the U.S. and Mexico to combat the opioid crisis. Biden noted that the seized fentanyl could have been enough to kill 15% of all Americans, emphasizing the impact of this seizure on reducing overdose deaths in the U.S. by 14%, the largest reduction to date.
