Suspect Arrested in CEO Killing; Ghost Gun, Fingerprints Link Him to Crime
Dec 11, 2024, 07:22 PM
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in New York City. Suspect Luigi Mangione, 26, was arrested after five days on the run at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania and is charged with the murder. Authorities have linked Mangione to the crime through fingerprints found on a water bottle and a cell phone near the scene, as well as a ghost gun in his possession that matches shell casings found at the crime scene. The gun lacked serial numbers, making it untraceable. Mangione was reported missing two weeks prior to the killing and has displayed erratic behavior during court appearances, shouting unintelligibly and resisting extradition to New York. Investigations revealed that Mangione had left glowing reviews for the Unabomber's manifesto and had writings suggesting he planned a "precise" killing without risking harm to innocents. His defense attorney claims there is "no evidence" linking him to the shooting.
