McDonald's Invests Over $100 Million After E. Coli from Onions Kills One, Sickens 104
Nov 16, 2024, 04:42 PM
McDonald's is investing over $100 million on marketing and support to boost restaurant sales and assist franchisees after an E. coli outbreak linked to its Quarter Pounder burgers sickened at least 104 people across 14 states and resulted in one death in Colorado. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported Wednesday that 14 new illnesses were linked to the outbreak, bringing the total to over 100 cases. The outbreak has been tied to slivered onions on the Quarter Pounders, with Taylor Farms in California, the supplier of these onions, recalling the products potentially linked to the contamination. A consumer class action alleged that Taylor Fresh failed to inform customers about the risk of E. coli in its products. The investments include $65 million that will go directly to the hardest-hit franchises to accelerate recovery and lure customers back.
