Sun Emits Powerful X7.1-Class Solar Flare, Second Largest Since 2017, Causing Widespread Radio Blackout

On October 1, 2024, the Sun emitted a significant X7.1-class solar flare, peaking at 6:20 p.m. ET. This event, originating from sunspot region 3842, caused a widespread radio blackout on the day-lit side of the Earth, particularly affecting the Pacific region. The flare, which is the second largest since 2017, was associated with an R3-level radio blackout, impacting HF radio and GPS signals in the Western Hemisphere, Australia, and the Asian Pacific.
