Trump Inauguration Security Bolstered with 25,000 Personnel, National Guard, and Radiological Scans
Jan 16, 2025, 09:53 PM
U.S. national security agencies have warned that President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday could be an 'attractive potential target' for threats, including violent extremists. The agencies noted that individuals with 'election-related grievances' might view the event as their last chance to influence the election results through violence. Despite no specific credible threats being identified, security measures have been significantly enhanced. Approximately 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel, including 4,000 extra officers and 7,800 National Guard members from across the U.S., will be deployed in Washington, D.C., to ensure safety. This includes support from the Illinois National Guard and various units. Security protocols also include the use of Department of Energy helicopters to scan for radiological and nuclear irregularities, and the installation of 30 miles of fencing around key areas of the city.
