Washington D.C. is preparing for the 60th Presidential Inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, with extensive security measures in place. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with federal and local law enforcement officials, including D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger, and Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool, have outlined a robust security plan. This includes the activation of the entire D.C. police department, reinforcement by nearly 4,000 officers from across the U.S., and the deployment of 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel, including 7,800 National Guard members. The FBI has stated that there are no specific or credible threats to the inauguration, though the Secret Service has described the environment as a 'higher threat environment,' with the primary concern being the 'lone actor' threat. Security measures include widespread road closures, high visibility patrols, fencing, barriers, over 30 miles of anti-scale fencing, and the use of drones. The inauguration is expected to draw a large crowd, with over 250,000 ticketed guests anticipated. The security plan also involves screening all attendees at designated checkpoints and prohibiting various items from Capitol Grounds to ensure safety.
