McDonald's E. coli Outbreak Linked to Onions Sickens 75, Kills One; Quarter Pounder Sales to Resume
Oct 27, 2024, 09:35 PM
Testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture has ruled out beef patties as the source of the E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers, which has sickened at least 75 people across 13 states, including 22 hospitalizations and one death. The CDC reports that the contamination is believed to be tied to slivered onions supplied by Taylor Farms, a California-based produce company that has recalled yellow onions. McDonald's has stopped sourcing onions from Taylor Farms' Colorado Springs facility indefinitely and will resume selling Quarter Pounders without slivered onions in the affected restaurants this week. Other fast-food chains, including KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Burger King, have also removed fresh onions from their menus as a precaution.
