CDC Declares McDonald's E. coli Outbreak Over: 104 Sick, 34 Hospitalized, 1 Fatality
Dec 3, 2024, 08:00 PM
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have concluded their investigation into an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers, declaring the outbreak officially over. The outbreak, which was traced back to slivered onions served at McDonald's, affected 104 people across 14 states, with 34 hospitalizations and one fatality reported. The recalled onions from Taylor Farms, served at McDonald's, were past their shelf-life, reducing the risk of further contamination. The investigation found that the onions were the likely source of the outbreak, with no evidence suggesting the contamination spread beyond the U.S.
