Fast-Food Chains Pull Salinas-based Onions Amid McDonald's E. Coli Outbreak
Oct 24, 2024, 11:00 PM
McDonald's has linked a deadly E. coli outbreak to onions sourced from a Salinas-based California produce company. The outbreak, which has sickened 49 people and resulted in one death, has prompted several fast-food chains, including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC, and Burger King, to pull fresh onions from some of their locations as a precautionary measure. Federal officials are currently investigating the outbreak, which has been associated with McDonald's Quarter Pounder sandwiches. Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC, has removed fresh onions from select locations to mitigate the risk of further contamination.
