Trump Picks Former Green Beret and China Hawk Rep. Mike Waltz as National Security Adviser
Nov 11, 2024, 11:48 PM
President-elect Donald Trump has selected Florida Representative Mike Waltz, who represents Florida's 6th Congressional District, as his National Security Adviser. Waltz is a former U.S. Army Green Beret who served in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa. Known as a China hawk and NATO critic, he advocates for greater contributions from other countries to NATO and has been skeptical of unlimited U.S. financial support to Ukraine, stating, 'The era of Ukraine's blank check from Congress is over.' He is a co-sponsor of the MAHSA Act and serves on the House Intelligence subcommittee overseeing the NSA and Cyber Command. The position does not require Senate confirmation, and his congressional seat will be filled by a special election. His wife, Julia Nesheiwat, previously served as Trump's Homeland Security Advisor.
