Prosecutors Urge Supreme Court to Uphold Trump's 34-Count Hush Money Conviction, Sentencing Set for September 18
Jul 25, 2024, 09:04 PM
New York prosecutors are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject Missouri's challenge to former President Donald Trump's criminal conviction and sentencing. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his office argue that the Supreme Court's recent ruling on presidential immunity has no bearing on Trump's 34-count conviction for falsifying business records to hide a hush money payment to a porn star. The prosecutors assert that the conviction should stand despite the immunity ruling, emphasizing that the acts in question were unofficial and not protected by presidential immunity. The court papers made public on Thursday underscore the prosecutors' stance that the verdict, reached by a unanimous jury, remains valid. DA Bragg's 69-page brief also highlights that if Judge Merchan rules the convictions stand, Trump will be sentenced on September 18.
