Giants Sign Gold Glove 3B Matt Chapman to Six-Year, $151M Extension Through 2030
Sep 5, 2024, 05:35 AM
The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a six-year, $151 million contract extension with Gold Glove third baseman Matt Chapman. The extension, which runs through the 2030 season, includes a $1 million signing bonus in 2025 and voids Chapman's two upcoming player options as well as a 2027 mutual option. Chapman will earn $25 million each year from 2025 to 2030. He has hit 22 home runs and accumulated 4.5 fWAR this season and was expected to opt out of the final two years of his current deal. This contract is the second-largest in Giants history, following Buster Posey's deal in 2013. The agreement ensures long-term stability for the Giants' roster, although there remains much work to be done to build a competitive team.
