Indian Fisherman Dies 5 Nautical Miles North of Katchatheevu Island After Collision with Sri Lankan Naval Vessel
Aug 1, 2024, 05:23 AM
The ongoing conflict between Indian and Sri Lankan fishers has escalated following a tragic incident in which an Indian fisherman died after his boat capsized in Sri Lankan waters. The incident occurred early on August 1, 5 nautical miles north of Katchatheevu Island, when a Sri Lankan naval vessel allegedly collided with the fishing boat, leading to the death of one fisherman and the disappearance of another. Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu went missing in the mid-sea near Rameshwaram due to the collision. Following the incident, Indian authorities summoned the Sri Lankan Acting High Commissioner in New Delhi to address the situation. In response to the death, fishermen and family members staged a protest in Rameswaram.
