Biden Administration Boosts Startup Immigration with USCIS Resuming International Entrepreneur Rule, No Backlog
Jul 12, 2024, 10:52 PM
The Biden administration has published new information aimed at boosting an existing immigration policy for entrepreneurs. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has resumed the International Entrepreneur Rule, which allows startup founders and their spouses to work in the US. This rule, originally an Obama-era initiative, had faced challenges under the Trump administration but is now being actively promoted. The program has seen only 94 applications so far, but new guidance and tips are expected to increase participation. Founders who have raised more than $264,147 and own at least 10% of a US startup entity founded within the last five years are eligible. The visa provides work authorization for 2.5 years, with the possibility of renewal up to five years. USCIS reports no backlog in processing new applications, and VC-backed founders are encouraged to apply.
