Jets Sign RB Tarik Cohen to One-Year Deal, Marking Comeback Since 2020
May 29, 2024, 02:55 PM
The New York Jets have signed former Bears running back and return specialist Tarik Cohen to a one-year deal. Cohen, who last played in the NFL in 2020, is making a comeback after a series of injuries. Jets head coach Robert Saleh described Cohen as an 'explosive playmaker' and a 'nightmare' for defenses. Cohen will compete with Xavier Gipson for the returner role, with Gipson currently the front-runner. Saleh noted that the new kickoff rules, which are expected to increase the number of touches for returners, influenced the signing. Cohen was an All-Pro punt returner in 2018 and made 79 receptions in 2019. The Jets waived RB Markese Stepp to make room for Cohen on the roster. Cohen, who is practicing and wearing No. 38, had previously attempted a comeback with the Panthers but was released on May 10.
