Syrian Authorities Detain Former HTS Member Ahmed al-Mansour, Founder of 25 January Revolutionaries, Over Calls for Uprising Against Sisi

Syrian authorities have detained Ahmed al-Mansour, an Egyptian former member of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which is classified as a terrorist organization by Washington, following his calls for an armed uprising against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Mansour, who helped overthrow Bashar al-Assad in Syria, announced the establishment of the '25 January Revolutionaries Movement' aimed at ousting Sisi. His arrest came after he posted videos and social media content threatening the Egyptian government, which garnered 7.5 million views and drew significant attention. Mansour's actions have reportedly strained relations between the new Syrian administration and Egypt, with his movement expressing regret over the potential embarrassment caused to Syrian leadership. Originally from Alexandria, Mansour had previously fought with HTS against Assad's regime and is believed to have participated in protests in Egypt against the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi before fleeing to Syria. Egyptian security forces raided his home in Alexandria and arrested some of his family members in connection with his recent declarations in Syria.
