Sir Iain Duncan Smith Holds Chingford Seat by 5,000 Votes in 2024 Election
Jul 5, 2024, 02:19 AM
Sir Iain Duncan Smith, the former Conservative leader, has successfully held his seat in Chingford and Woodford Green in the 2024 General Election. Despite a strong challenge from Labour's Shama Tatler and Independent candidate Faiza Shaheen, who both garnered 12,000 votes each, Sir Duncan Smith won with a margin of 5,000 votes, securing a total of 17,000 votes. The split in the Labour vote, attributed to Shaheen's late deselection and subsequent independent candidacy, played a crucial role in Sir Duncan Smith's victory. This seat was one of Labour's top targets, but the division within their ranks ultimately benefited the incumbent Conservative MP. Sir Duncan Smith has represented Chingford and Woodford Green for 32 years.
