VisitNiger Junta Seizes Control of Orano's SOMAÏR Uranium Mine, Bans Exports
Dec 4, 2024, 11:41 AM
French nuclear firm Orano has announced that the military-led authorities in Niger have taken 'operational control' of its uranium mining unit, Somair, in which Orano holds a 64% stake. The company stated that decisions made during the company's board meetings are no longer being implemented. This development follows a coup in Niger, after which the military regime also banned uranium exports. Orano has expressed its intention to defend its rights but remains open to reaching an accord with the Nigerien authorities.
