Small Plane Crash on I-684 in Harrison, NY, Kills One, Injures Another
Dec 13, 2024, 11:56 AM
A small plane crash on Interstate 684 in Westchester County, New York, resulted in one fatality and one injury. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday night when the single-engine Tecnam P2008 aircraft, en route from Linden, New Jersey, to Westchester County Airport, experienced engine failure. The pilot declared an emergency and attempted to land at the nearby airport but crashed onto the highway near Exit 2 in Harrison, about 25 miles northeast of Manhattan. The crash caused a significant traffic disruption, with the highway being closed in both directions for several hours. The plane's passenger, a 32-year-old man from Monsey, was killed, and the pilot, whose identity has not been released, was critically injured and taken to Westchester Medical Center. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash, which also led to an aviation fuel spill that the Department of Environmental Conservation is addressing.
